Volunteer Verification

Who can sign up for this site?

Any single individual who volunteers. iHeartVolunteers defines a volunteer to be someone who does charitable or helpful work and provides a service willingly and without pay. Your volunteer service does not have to be a set term or regularly scheduled. The volunteer time served cannot be court ordered or for medical research. You must be 18 years or older to sign up. U.S. Citizenship is not required, this is a global dating site. Volunteer service cannot be paid, but it is acceptable to receive a living stipend.

How does iHeartVolunteers verify my volunteer service?

First of all, iHeartVolunteers understands the importance of personal privacy. Please note - the volunteer organization listed during registration will not be aware or informed that our verification process is for an online dating site. iHeartVolunteers uses its subsidiary company, which is owned and operated by the same individuals as iHeartVolunteers, to screen its users volunteer service. Your volunteer organization listed during registration will be contacted by our professional screening subsidiary company and we will ask if the volunteer information you provided is correct. Alternatively, you can provide an official volunteer document during registration. Verifying volunteer service is a very common occurrence. For example, employers contact organizations to verify information that is listed on professional resumes. Volunteer service is often listed on those resumes.

Every individual who signs up for iHeartVolunteers will be required to go through a simple volunteer verification process.

  1. User completes the registration page - individual must provide full name given to the volunteer organization.

  2. At this time the user will be allowed to create a profile page. Meanwhile, above the users profile photo will read Unverified until the staff at iHeartVolunteers confirms their volunteer service. If the user is verified the word Verified will read above their profile photo. During the verification process the individual will have access at whatever level they signed up.

  3. Verified and Unverified users can Subscribe & Become a Member at anytime to gain full access to the site.

  4. If a users volunteer service cannot be verified their profile remains Unverified and we encourage those users to volunteer at an organization that keeps volunteer records. You can find a list of a few of these organizations on our Member Resource page.

Please keep in mind that subscribing members will be given priority in our verification process.

There are three ways to verify a user’s volunteer service.

  1. During registration you can upload an official volunteer document which states your volunteer service.

  2. Our verification subsidiary contacts your organization to verify your volunteer service.

  3. Or go to the Contact Us page, submit a form and we will work with you to verify your volunteer service.

What is a volunteer document?

A document or certificate an organization provides to you that proves you volunteered. For example, a certificate of completion, a certificate of volunteerism, a close of service description, a picture of a volunteer ID, a forward of an official volunteer email exchange, a screenshot of an online volunteer account visibly displaying your name and the organization's name, or any form from an organization that proves your service.

Why do you verify your user's volunteer service?

We feel a simple screening process which verifies the individuals volunteer service is the best way to create a great community of like-minded individuals. We understand that some individuals volunteer, and there is no way to verify their service, which is why they may remain on the site. But, the word “Unverified” will read above their profile picture. In order to have “Verified” above your profile photo we must confirm the volunteer service you listed during registration.

What if my volunteer service cannot be verified?

You will be notified if we are unable to verify your volunteer service with the volunteer organization you listed during registration. If your volunteer service cannot be verified your profile remains Unverified and we encourage those users to volunteer at an organization that keeps volunteer records. There is a list of a some of these organizations on our Member Resource page. Also, feel free to submit a form on the Contact Us page and we can work with you to help verify your volunteer service.

I am not a volunteer, but I am single and want to join this site?

iHeartVolunteers encourages our members to continue volunteering. We also, want to encourage people who have not volunteered to do so and then sign up on our site! There is a list of volunteer organizations that are known to keep volunteer records. You can view these organizations on our Member Resource page.

What does it mean when my volunteer service is verified?

Verified means iHeartVolunteers was able to confirm, with the volunteer organization that you listed during registration, that the information you provided regarding your volunteer service was correct.

Why does it read “Unverified” above my profile picture?

It means that iHeartVolunteers subsidiary professional screening company was either unable to confirm your volunteer service listed during registration or your verification is still pending.

Can you guarantee that a “Verified” user has volunteered?

Verification is what makes us unique, but it is impossible to be 100% accurate. We only mark members as “Verified” when we have determined that they have volunteered, but that does not guarantee that the member is the actual volunteer we have verified. For this reason, we encourage all members to follow some safety guidelines and beware of catfishing.

How long will it take for me to get verified?

The length of time it takes to verify is different for everyone. In most circumstances, we can verify volunteers within one to three business days. But, it can take longer depending on the information provided by the member, and the organization with which the member has volunteered. Occasionally, iHeartVolunteers will ask the new subscriber for more information when the information submitted is not enough, this can delay the verification process.

I’m currently serving as a volunteer and I am wondering if I qualify for a free subscription. What is considered a long-term immersive program?

We consider a long-term immersive volunteer program as a commitment of 3 months or more, serving as a full-time volunteer with a set end date. If your volunteer program meets those guidelines you will qualify for a free subscription until your service end date.

Why do we offer free subscriptions to individuals who are currently serving in a long-term immersive volunteer program? We know that when someone is serving full-time as a volunteer, money is tight so we wanted to support these individuals by providing free subscriptions during their time of service.

A few examples of organizations that offer long-term immersive volunteer programs - Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, Doctors Without Borders, etc...

What happens if a "subscribing member" sends a message to a guest user?

The guest user will receive an email notification that tells them they have received a message from you. The email includes your username. If you message a guest user you will be informed that they are a guest user, but hit send and encourage them to become a member and subscribe! They will be able to view a portion of your profile so they may want to message you back and become a "subscribing member".

I saw an inappropriate photo, how can I report it?

If you see an inappropriate photo, we ask that you report it by going to the “Contact Us” page, fill out the fields. Be sure to select “Reporting inappropriate photo” for the “Type of Question” field. Remember to include the username of the individual who has the inappropriate photo in the “Message” field. Click the “Submit” button.

What happens if a user uploads an inappropriate photo?

If iHeartVolunteers determines that the photo is inappropriate, we will suspend the users account and ask that they remove the photo. Once they remove the photo we will reactivate their account.

If the user is a "subscribing member" they will not be refunded during the time their account was suspended as a result of violating our Terms and conditions. It will be up to the individual to contact us once they remove the inappropriate photo and wish to have their account reactivated.

If the user continues to post inappropriate photos, then we may decide to permanently remove that user from the site. For more information go to “Remove a User from the Site”.

I would like to report a user for suspicious and/or inappropriate behavior. What should I do?

We ask that you go to the “Contact Us” page and fill out the fields. Be sure to select “Reporting users” for the “Type of Question” field. Remember to include the username of the individual who is behaving inappropriately and explain the behavior in the “Message” field. The more specific you are the better we will be able to evaluate it and potentially act on it. Click the “Submit” button.

After submitting the “Contact Us” form, we would recommend adding the inappropriate user to your “Block List”.

What circumstances would have to occur for iHeartVolunteers to remove a user from the site?

As owners of iHeartVolunteers we will determine what is considered inappropriate and whether or not the inappropriate behavior warrants removal from our site. We will not tolerate obscene, malevolent, fraudulent and/or the defamation of our users. We will be especially strict when it comes to harassment based on their sexual preference, religion, race, politics, and other sensitive social aspects. Everyone is welcome on our site so please respect all users and their backgrounds. If someone's opinions or lifestyle choices bother you in anyway, simply add them to your “Block List”.

If a user receives several complaints from more than one person, they are likely to be permanently removed from our site.

If you are a "subscribing member" and you are removed from the site you will not receive a refund and you will be required to cancel your subscription by contacting PayPal Customer Service (1-888-221-1161). You will be required to provide your first and last name, the phone number or email address you provided when you signed up, and the last 4 digits of the credit card you registered or you can submit a “Contact Us” form requesting that we cancel your subscription on your behalf. Be sure to include your full name used during the payment process.

Why isn’t iHeartVolunteers free?

It takes a lot of work and money to operate a dating site, especially since we require a simple screening process to verify our user’s volunteer service. We could not operate a site with a great community of like-minded individuals without revenue, we do our best to keep membership affordable and we give back with 10% of our profits going to our members volunteer organization/projects.

How do subscribing members apply for iHeartVolunteers annual grants?

When the time comes and we are accepting grant applications you will be notified via the iHeartVolunteers email Newsletters. Application instructions will be included in our Newsletters.
